I found a piece of birchbark where I started writing my story.
And you came in like a meadowlark with all of the grace and the glory.
I'm higher now than I've ever been on the wings of a monarch soaring.
I've been floating like a feather, battered up and weathered on the breeze of a storm in the morning.

Like a bird that's been tethered, there's no way to measure all the light that he could have been holding.
Free from the ropes and no longer choked by the ghost who's been blowing his smoke rings.
They curl and collect, and they change the subject when they air in the room's getting heavy.
They wrap around your finger like you're married to what lingers; this devotion to habit is scaring me.

I said it once, I'll never say it again, the reaction was rather eventful.
My apologies, deepest sympathies for your ability to be careful.
I'm always waiting around for something profound, ignoring the obvious potential.
But I'm writing out of anger, my love is forever, don't misplace it in my laughter.
